Are Bulk Buckets Right for Your Event?

Floral installations can get pricey. And I get it – event florists are the elite in their trade. They’ve spent years perfecting their craft, and you are paying for more than just the flowers. But what if there was a more budget-friendly way to have show-stopping blooms?

What if you had the option to flowers that:

Are sustainably grown
Reflect the season
Are designed by you!

Yep, That’s right! Be the florist for your own event!

Bulk buckets are a great way to explore your creative side and lower your event budget.

What is a bulk bucket?

They are an easy, convenient way to get your hands on what is in season. Each bucket is filled with the perfect blend of big, fluffy focals; unique, delicate fillers; and lush, full greenery – everything you need to make beautiful arrangements every time!

Bulk buckets can take a lot of financial stress off of your wedding, shower, or other event. But they might not be the best answer for everyone.
Because there are a lot of things to consider when planning DIY event florals.
In this article, I will go over all the ins and outs of DIY floristry, briefly touching on why it might (or might not) be the best choice for you. At the end, you will have a better understanding of what’s involved and will be on your way to floral success!
I’m going to ask a series of questions that will help you evaluate whether bulk buckets are right for your event.

Let’s Get Started!

Is saving money in your event budget a high priority?

Bulk buckets can be a great way to make a little room in the budget, but sometimes the stress of an event can overshadow that little victory. If saving money isn’t a top priority for you, keep in mind that a good event florist is worth their weight in gold.

What does your event schedule look like?

Will you have time to spare on the day or or before your event for things like planning, conditioning, and arranging?
Because trust me, it takes longer than you think! Are you able to fit it all into the schedule of your big day, or designate someone you trust to help you out?

Are you able to pick up your buckets?

Or delegate someone else to do it for you? We recommend scheduling your flowers for pick up one to two days before your event.

Do you have an enclosed vehicle for transport?

Flowers don’t survive hurricanes… they won’t survive a ride in the back of your fiance’s pick-up truck.

Do you have a safe, cool location to store the flowers?

Exposure to direct sun or heat can cause your blooms to wilt fast. A cool, dark place is preferred for the best looking florals on your big day.

Are you overly critical of yourself?

Nothing is worse than looking back on your special day and cringing every time you think about the flowers. Creating your own arrangements can be a fun, relaxing way to let your creativity shine – but we are always our own worst critics, and overanalyzing your work can ruin the magic of the day.

Do you enjoy a creative challenge, or have interest in floral work?

The most beautiful flower arrangements are the ones that reflect your own unique style. DIY florals are a great way to let that creative side free!

Are you willing/able to practice?

Don’t wait until the day of your event. Getting some practice, even if it’s just a few small bouquets, will give you the experience you need to step into the role of florist-for-the-day with confidence and make the whole experience so much more enjoyable.

Are you looking for specific flowers?

Or are you flexible enough to work with what’s available?
Local flowers are grown with the seasons – you can’t get peonies for an August wedding, or fresh-cut dahlias in December. If you are willing to embrace that, and trust your farmer, you can have beautiful arrangements in any season.

Is supporting a sustainable local product important to you?

Supporting your local flower farmer puts money back into your community and keeps it out of the pocket of foreign commercial growers. And really, what’s better than flowers that are grown right here in your hometown?

I hope this gives you a clearer idea of whether DIY florals are right for your event. And if they are, congratulations! There are fewer things more fulfilling than creating something with your own hands.
